What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a very small but strong post made of biocompatible metals or ceramics, which is inserted into your jawbone to replace a missing tooth root. The implant acts as a support for the tooth and is inserted under local anaesthetic. Dental implants ensure your new teeth feel both natural and secure.

Straumann® Edentulous Solutions

At Pannal Dental Clinic we use Straumann® Edentulous Solutions for our dental implants. Straumann® provide a wide range of treatment options tailored to each individual patient. Dental implants are placed in your jaw, then your new teeth are fixed onto these implants, so they stay in place and are as secure as natural teeth.

Dental Implant FAQs

Have a question? We’re here to help.

  • What types of dentistry implants are available to me?

There are two options of dentistry implants available to our patients:

    Option 1: Click-fix teeth

Click-fix teeth are implant-fixed teeth that you can remove yourself for cleaning. There are different click-fix systems to attach your teeth to the implants.

    Option 2: Permanently fixed teeth

Natural looking teeth are permanently fixed to dental implants with tiny screws. Your dentist will only remove them periodically for cleaning and maintenance.

  • How long does a dental implant last?

With good dental hygiene, your dental implant should last between 15 and 20 years.

  • Why do I need a dental implant?

Missing teeth can cause problems for your gums, making eating and sometimes speaking, more difficult. Furthermore, your teeth on either side of the missing tooth can start to move or loosen. When teeth are extracted or lost, the jawbone supporting these teeth is no longer needed and starts to deteriorate. This can lead to changes in your facial appearance. Dental implants are a permanent solution which ensures you avoid these potential issues.

  • What other options are available?

If you have one, two or more teeth missing in a row, we can fit either a bridge or dentures. Dentures provide a more cost-effective solution for replacing lost teeth. New dentures can replace a single tooth, several teeth or even a full row of teeth.

  • What are the benefits of dental implants?

Dental implants improve oral health. The treatment is a permanent long-lasting solution, and the teeth function the same as your normal teeth meaning you can eat what you want, and they are easy to clean. Furthermore, no treatment is required to surrounding teeth.

"I am so impressed with the whole process for my recent dental implant.  I presumed it would be very painful and invasive but Greg talked me though every step and it was totally painless and straightforward. I've just had my new tooth fitted and it is fantastic. I can't believe it. Thank you!"
